The Pointer has something to say. It fumbles inside itself and finds nothing. Somehow, a lot is said. We acknowledge it.

This artwork, recently featured in The Pointer at bitforms gallery, doubles as a procedural whiteness simulator. A macOS application presents an interactive database of terms that outline a continuum between white innocence and white supremacy. The words follow this circuitous path as popup windows materialize a body shifting to align with its thought patterns. The user can observe whiteness at work in the evolving Activity feed.

This limited edition of 100 software boxes contains the Mac program and an accompanying cheat sheet. The software box and printed insert extrude the theme of ideological thinness into physical space, while the application’s egg icon refers to insulation, fragility, and the default Twitter avatar that once hid the collective identity of the world’s trolls.
